Online Aquaponics Courses

Learn Aquaponics in a Way That Makes Sense to You

There isn't one right way to learn aquaponics.

Some people want a complete system they can follow step by step.

Others want to understand how aquaponics works so they can design something completely different.

Both can lead to the same place:

A healthy aquaponics ecosystem, fresh food growing at home and the confidence to understand what you're doing.

My online aquaponics courses are practical, self-paced and designed to help you learn without making aquaponics more complicated than it needs to be.

Whether you want me to show you exactly what to build or teach you how to design your own, you can choose the learning path that feels right for you.

Your Aquaponics Journey

You don't need to understand everything about aquaponics before you begin.

You learn a little.

You begin to understand what's happening.

You discover what works for you.

And eventually, you grow — not just vegetables and healthy fish, but the confidence to care for your own aquaponics ecosystem.

Wherever you are in that journey, you can start from there.

Which Aquaponics Course Is Right for You?

Both courses teach you the foundations of successful aquaponics.

The biggest difference is how you want to learn.

Design Your Own Aquaponics System

I Want to Understand Enough to Build My Own

If you don't want to be limited to one aquaponics design, this is your course.

Instead of giving you one system to copy, Design Your Own Aquaponics System teaches you the principles behind successful aquaponics so you can make informed decisions about your own build.

You'll explore different growing methods, filtration, pumps, plumbing, water quality, fish, vegetables, recycled materials and the choices that shape an aquaponics system.

You'll also watch three very different small-scale aquaponics systems being built step by step, including plumbing and construction, so you can see how the same principles can be applied in completely different ways.

One of those systems is built using scavenged and repurposed materials — demonstrating just how flexible aquaponics can become once you understand what you're doing.

The goal isn't to teach you how to copy my system. It's to give you the confidence to design yours.

Best For:

  • People who enjoy DIY

  • People who want to understand why things work

  • Anyone wanting flexibility in their system design

  • People interested in recycled and repurposed materials

  • Anyone wanting to compare different aquaponics designs

  • People who may build more than one system over time

Included

  • 10 comprehensive modules

  • Three practical aquaponics system builds

  • Aquaponics design and planning

Still Not Sure Which Course to Choose?

Here's the easiest way to decide.

Do you want a complete aquaponics system that you can follow from beginning to end?

Choose Simple Courtyard Aquaponics.

Do you want to understand different aquaponics designs and make your own decisions about what to build?

Choose Design Your Own Aquaponics System.

Neither approach is better.

They're simply two different ways of learning.

And whichever path you choose, I'll explain what we're doing, show you how it works and help you understand the living ecosystem you're creating.

More Than Just Building an Aquaponics System

Building the system is only the beginning.

Aquaponics works because fish, plants, beneficial bacteria and water are all connected.

That's why my courses don't stop once the plumbing is finished.

THE ECOSYSTEM

Understand how fish, plants, bacteria and water work together — including cycling and the nitrogen cycle.

YOUR FISH

Learn how to choose suitable fish, introduce them safely, feed them and recognise healthy behaviour.

YOUR WATER

Understand water testing and what your results are actually telling you about your ecosystem.

YOUR PLANTS

Learn how to choose vegetables and herbs suited to aquaponics and grow food you'll actually enjoy eating.

YOUR SYSTEM

Understand pumps, water movement, plumbing, filtration and the components keeping everything working.

ONGOING CARE

Learn the routine maintenance and regular checks that help keep your aquaponics ecosystem healthy.

See Aquaponics Working in the Real World

You can read about aquaponics for hours and still wonder what you're actually supposed to do when you're standing beside a fish tank with a drill and a pile of pipe.

That's why practical demonstrations are such an important part of my courses.

You'll see real aquaponics systems, real components and real builds.

I'll show you what I'm doing.

I'll explain why I'm doing it.

And where something doesn't go exactly to plan, you'll see that too.

Because learning aquaponics isn't about creating something that looks perfect.

It's about understanding your system well enough to make it work.

Aquaponics Learning That Fits Around Real Life

Self-Paced

Work through your aquaponics course whenever it suits you.

Online

Learn from home and return to your lessons whenever you need them.

Unlimited Access

There's no need to rush through the course or remember everything the first time.

Beginner Friendly

Aquaponics terms and concepts are explained without assuming you already know what they mean.

Practical

Learn from real backyard aquaponics systems and practical demonstrations — not just diagrams and theory.

More Support When You Need It

Whichever aquaponics course you choose, you won't only be learning how to put a system together.

Both courses include additional learning to help with two of the areas beginners often find intimidating: water quality and using tools.

Water Quality & Fish Health

Healthy fish and healthy plants both depend on healthy water.

Learn how to test your aquaponics water, understand what your results mean and recognise changes happening inside your ecosystem.

You'll also learn the fundamentals of fish health and what to look for when something doesn't seem right.

Included with both courses.

Aquaponics water quality and fish health training for beginner aquaponics growers

Using Common Tools With Confidence

Never used a drill, jigsaw, hole saw or heat gun before?

That's okay.

This practical workshop introduces the common tools used during aquaponics builds, what they're for and how they're used.

You don't need to become a DIY expert.

You just need enough confidence to begin.

Included with both courses.

Optional Extras

You don't need these to successfully complete either aquaponics course.

They're simply extra tools and workshops you can add if they're useful to you.

AquaTracker — $7 USD

Keeping records makes it much easier to understand what is happening in your water over time.

AquaTracker is a colour-coded spreadsheet where you can record your water test results, identify trends and quickly see whether your readings are within recommended ranges.

Available as an optional extra when you enrol.

Aquaponics Fish Viewing Window Workshop — $27 USD

Want to see what's happening beneath the water?

Learn two ways to install a clear fish viewing window into an IBC or drum, with practical demonstrations showing how I install them and the mistakes to avoid.

It can make checking your fish easier — and gives you somewhere rather lovely to stop and watch them swimming.

Available as an optional extra when you enrol.

Hi, I'm Candy

I've been building, growing with and teaching aquaponics for more than 20 years.

My first aquaponics system failed.

Quite spectacularly.

The problem wasn't that aquaponics didn't work.

I didn't know what I didn't know.

That experience eventually led me to formally study aquatic husbandry while continuing to build, test, change and learn from my own systems.

Over the years, I've discovered that the most useful thing I can teach isn't one perfect way to build an aquaponics system.

It's how to understand the ecosystem you're caring for.

Because eventually, I want you to be able to look at your own system and think:

I know what's happening here.
